What areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal can effectively treat nearly any part of the body. Popular treatment areas include the face, neck, legs, underarms, arms, bikini line, back, and stomach.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed can depend on the area being treated and the amount of hair in the treated area. Most patients require between five to six treatments to achieve optimal results. Hair grows at different rates and phases. Hair in the active growth stage responds to treatment and multiple treatment sessions are needed to ensure all the hair in an area is effectively removed.
What can I expect during a treatment session?
At the Center for Dermatology, we use the Alma Laser SHR In-Motion system. This system uses broad spectrum light energy to target hair follicles and provides optimal hair removal results with little to no discomfort. Our hair removal system is equipped with a special cooling tip that reduces any discomfort experienced during the treatment and protects the skin around the targeted hair follicles.
What is the recovery like?
Some patients may experience some redness in the treatment area immediately following a laser hair removal treatment. This side effect typically subsides within a few hours and most patients are able to immediately return to their activities after the treatment. We recommend that patients avoid excessive sun exposure after a treatment session as the skin will have increased sensitivity to the sun. We also recommend patients do not wax or pluck hairs in the treatment areas between treatment sessions.
Who is a candidate?
Hair removal can be effective on all skin types and skin tones. Hair removal is not effective on all hair types, and blonde, white, red, and gray hair cannot be treated by laser or light-based hair removal systems because of their lack of melanin.
When will I see results?
Results of laser hair removal can be seen immediately following treatment with continued improvement over the next few days as hair falls out of the treated follicles. Due to hair growth cycle, multiple treatment sessions will likely be needed to achieve desired results.
