Chemical Peels for Acne Treatment

Chemical peels for acne treatment contain an acidic solution. This is applied to the area of the skin with mild to moderate acne and acne scarring. Once the solution has penetrated your skin, the pores are unclogged, dead skin is destroyed and your body is able to generate new skin. The result is the disappearance of your acne scars and blemishes. The process for the chemical peel is very simple. The procedure begins with a thorough cleansing of your skin by a medical professional. The solution is then applied to your skin. It then needs to stay on your skin for a set amount of time, after which a neutralizer can be applied by the medical professional to stop the chemical reaction.

The chemical peel is performed in the comfort of our office. There are different kinds of peels including the glycolic acid peel, the salicylic acid peel, the Perfect Peel and more. The best peel is dependent on your skin texture, the severity of your acne, the type of acne and numerous additional skin issues.

Once you have had your peel, you should avoid the sun for a set amount of time. When you are exposed to the sun, you should wear a high quality sunscreen. The best possible candidates for a chemical peel for acne treatment are suffering from acne scars and/or superficial acne. Although the results of the treatment are not permanent, in some cases, the acne has disappeared for several years.

The Types of Chemical Peels for Treating Acne

There are three basic kinds of peels. The superficial peel is milder and appropriate for all different types of skin. The mild peel penetrates more deeply into the skin. The deep peel offers the greatest penetration. It is important to note that individuals with certain skin tones should not have a deep peel because it can cause hyperpigmentation. In addition to acne, the superficial peel can also treat wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, enlarged pores and other blemishes. The right peel for your needs will ultimately be determined during a consultation.
