Renew Your Skin with Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure used to reduce blemishes, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and other skin conditions. During this treatment, the technician aims carefully controlled laser energy at the treatment site, and it penetrates the topmost layers of the skin.

What Does the Procedure Involve?

During this treatment, our experienced technician will run the laser over the treatment site, penetrating the outer layers of skin with each pass. The length of the treatment session depends on the size of the treatment site, among other factors. The treatment basically encourages the body to heal itself by stimulating the production of collagen and other beneficial substances.

Who is a Good Candidate for Laser Resurfacing?

The ideal candidate for laser resurfacing at our office will be a healthy client who is showing signs of aging or damage on their skin. People with acne and active skin infections are not good candidates. However, people who have acne scars on their skin from past cases of acne can likely benefit from the treatment. Laser resurfacing is safe for virtually all skin types and involves minimal to no discomfort during the treatment.

Types of Lasers Used for Laser Resurfacing

Several different types of lasers can be used in laser resurfacing. At the Center for Dermatology, we offer treatments with a fractional ablative laser, which creates micro-channels in the skin. Fractionated lasers cause less damage to healthy tissues than do conventional lasers. As such, it is a preferred treatment for various unwanted skin conditions.

It is important to note that the desired results may not be achieved after just one treatment session. Most clients require a series of skin resurfacing treatment sessions at our office in order to completely get rid of or significantly lessen the appearance of certain skin conditions.
